Sobering weekend for PROsport Racing in Misano

PROsport Racing had a difficult weekend at the GT4 European Series in Misano, but still managed to pick up some points.

The second race weekend of the GT4 European Series powered by RAFA Racing Club took place on the Italian Adriatic coast in Misano. PROsport Racing entered two Aston Martin Vantage GT4s, driven by Hugo Sasse and Raphael Rennhofer as well as Fabio Rauer and Hendrik Still.

In a test session lasting several hours on Thursday and the practice sessions on Friday, PROsport Racing was able to collect important data and was among the front runners in the highly competitive GT4 racing series. In qualifying on Saturday, the drivers were able to finish in the front midfield. An unfavorable vehicle classification of the Aston Martin Vantage GT4 made life even more difficult for the four drivers.

The two races were marked by many collisions – in which the two cars of the team from Wiesemscheid were also involved – as well as some tire damage. Fabio Rauer and Hendrik Still scored two points each in the Silver Cup in both races, thus limiting the damage for the Aston Martin racing team at the race track near the Adriatic.

The races were more difficult for Rennhofer and Sasse in the team’s second Aston Martin. In the first race, the Austrian Rennhofer retired in the first half of the race after a collision. At the start of the second race, Sasse was hit by a spinning Porsche and forced into the gravel, causing severe damage to the Aston Martin. Despite this, the two-time ADAC GT4 Germany champion and his young team-mate fought their way back from the back of the 47-car field to 14th position before a collision with a lapped car through no fault of their own at the end of the race meant another retirement.

“There’s not much to say about the race weekend, unfortunately we were unlucky in both races,” said team boss Chris Esser. “Fortunately, Fabio and Hendrik were able to score some points in both races. Hugo and Raphael could have finished in the Top 5 in terms of speed on Sunday, but unfortunately we weren’t able to do so due to unfortunate collisions. We’ll do everything we can to come back stronger for the next race weekend at Spa-Francorchamps.”

The third race weekend of the GT4 European Series powered by RAFA Racing Club will take place on the last weekend of June on the Ardennes rollercoaster at Spa-Francorchamps, where the racing series is part of the supporting program of the legendary 24-hour race. But for now, PROsport Racing’s entire focus is on the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring.
