PROsport Racing returned to the podium at the GT4 European Series in Spa-Francorchamps.
A total of 56 GT4 cars from eleven manufacturers competed in the GT4 European Series powered by RAFA Racing Club at Spa-Francorchamps. PROsport Racing entered two Aston Martin Vantage GT4s, driven by Hugo Sasse and Raphael Rennhofer as well as Fabio Rauer and Hendrik Still.
In qualifying for the first race on Friday, two-time ADAC GT4 Germany champion Sasse put the #99 Vantage GT4 in third place on the grid. Sasse and his Austrian partner put in a strong performance on the Ardennes rollercoaster and also finished third in the race. This is the first podium result for the two drivers since their victory in the second race at the season opener in Le Castellet and the PROsport racing team was also able to break its recent run of bad luck. Fabio Rauer had to park the sister car after a hit in the first corner.
In the second race directly before the legendary 24-hour race, starting drivers Rennhofer and Sasse fought their way up from 16th on the grid to seventh position – another strong points finish for the drivers of the racing team from Wiesemscheid. Fabio Rauer and Hendrik Still had another difficult race and once again scored no points.
“After the last few difficult weeks, it feels good to be back on the podium!” said a delighted Team Principal Chris Esser. “Hugo and Raphael showed a strong performance in both races and we proved once again that we are still competitive against more modern cars with the older Aston Martin Vantage GT4. Unfortunately, Fabio and Hendrik had a difficult weekend, but I’m sure they can fight back in Hockenheim as well.”
At the halfway point of the season, Hugo Sasse and Raphael Rennhofer now occupy fifth position in the overall standings of the Silver Cup. Fabio Rauer and Hendrik Still follow in 13th place. PROsport Racing is in fourth place in the team standings. The GT4 European Series continues in three weeks’ time at the Hockenheimring.
