PROsport brings living history to the start at a historic event on a historic racetrack. In the traditional 1,000-kilometer race at the Nürburgring, which will be revived on the weekend (September 17-19), both an Opel Kadett and a Volvo 240 Turbo will be entered under the name of the PROsport Classic team. With Adam Christodoulou, Christoph Esser, Arno Klasen, Moritz Oestreich and Dennis Fetzer, the driver line-up is as strong as it is prominent.
The Volvo 240 Turbo comes from the 1986 European Touring Car Championship. In both the European Championship and the DTM, the “Swedish coal boxes” were among the strongest opponents in the field. The story of the Opel Kadett is very special. With an almost identical Group 4 Kadett in a distinctive Pioneer design, Chris Esser drove in the 1,000 km race at the Nürburgring in 1980 in the division up to 2.0 liters – in the world championship at that time, even the sports prototypes drove up to 2.0 liters in this class – an excellent sixth place.
The success of Chris Esser together with Nico Verdonck with the white and blue Kadett at the ADAC 24h Classic Youngtimer at the beginning of June this year was downright sensational. After three hours, Esser / Verdonck with C-Kadett captured the outstanding second place in the overall classification, and that among almost 150 participants.
