PROsport Racing celebrated two class victories in the GT4 class at the ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers. The team also triumphed in the Heritage Touring Cup at the Spa Classic.
PROsport Racing has completed its final preparations for the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring. The team fielded one Aston Martin Vantage GT3 and one Vantage GT4 in the ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers. The two four-hour races were again part of the ADAC Nürburgring Endurance Series.
After the GT4 Aston Martin had finished among the top three in every Nürburgring Endurance Series race so far, Yannik Himmels, Michael Albers, and Marek Böckmann – who replaced Jörg Viebahn this weekend for personal reasons – achieved a major breakthrough. In both races, the trio won the SP10 class for homologated GT4 vehicles. The drivers and team were not deterred by the sometimes difficult weather conditions on Saturday evening, delivering a strong and flawless performance throughout the entire weekend.
“A huge compliment to the drivers of our GT4! They’ve shown a steady learning curve throughout the season, and it was clear to us that sooner or later they would clinch their first class victory. The fact that they were able to win both races of the ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers is a great achievement!” a delighted team principal Chris Esser said.
PROsport Racing’s GT3 comeback ended prematurely. A new, unfortunately faulty engine mapping – which was required due to a regulation change starting with the ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers – forced the team to install a modified software version after the opening lap. As a result, the car had to be retired due to engine problems. Marek Böckmann, Nico Bastian, and Steven Palette were scheduled to drive the GT3 in the two four-hour races.
Preparations for the 24-hour race are now in full swing at PROsport Racing. The team’s full lineup will be announced in the coming weeks.
At the same time, PROsport Racing’s Classic division was competing in Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, fielding a BMW 635 CSi in the Heritage Touring Cup in collaboration with GDM Motorsport. The car was driven by 1986 DTM champion Kurt Thiim and Vincent Vosse, the team principal of the WRT team, who was himself a former successful racing driver. After a second-place finish in the first race, the duo secured a class victory in the highly competitive Group A in the second race.
“Successes like last weekend’s in Spa confirm that we chose the right path when we decided to increase our involvement in historic motorsport. Achieving these victories with the 635 CSi in such a strong field is a truly impressive achievement that makes us proud,” explains Chris Esser. “It was also a great honor for us to be able to work with Vincent Vosse – who leads one of the most successful teams in endurance racing.”
