Traditionally, the 24h Classic took place as part of the supporting program of the ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring. Over 200 historic racing cars participated in the race, which is the season highlight of the Youngtimer Trophy. PROsport Racing, in cooperation with GDM Motors, fielded three historic racing cars and strong driver lineups.

Team principal Chris Esser and Jörg Viebahn drove an Opel Kadett C Coupé, while Markus Oestreich, Hendrik Still, and Kurt Thiim drove a Volvo 240T Group A. The 1986 DTM champions Thiim, Oestreich, and Viebahn made a double start and also competed in a BMW 635 CSI.

The race on Saturday morning was successful for the team, which celebrated two class victories. Former European Truck Championship champion Oestreich, GT4 ace Still, and Danish racing legend Kurt Thiim won Class 53 by a margin of seven laps! The Volvo finished the race in a strong 17th place overall, defeating several significantly more powerful vehicles. Chris Esser and Jörg Viebahn also won Class 37 with the Opel, even though the car retired with a technical problem shortly before the finish. However, the Kadett had already completed enough laps to be considered the winner. The BMW retired after just a few laps with a technical problem.

“The 24h Classic is one of our absolute highlights every year. Driving around the Nordschleife with the historic racing cars is always fantastic! We are also very pleased to have been able to clinch two class wins. Technical problems like the one with the BMW can unfortunately occur with such vehicles,” explains Esser. “I was also thrilled by the fans’ interest in our cars. Regardless of age, almost everyone stopped by our tent and admired the three cars. This shows us that we made the right decision when we placed a greater emphasis on historic racing at PROsport Racing.”

Further racing appearances are planned this year at the historic motorsport events in Spa-Francorchamps and the Nürburgring.
