PROsport Racing returns to GT4 European Series

For the 2022 season, PROsport Racing returns to the GT4 European Series and will field two Aston Martin Vantage GT4s.

PROsport Racing is back on the SRO European GT4 platform. In the GT4 European Series, the team around Chris Esser will field two Aston Martin Vantage GT4s, as in the ADAC GT4 Germany. Most recently, the racing team raced in the European Championship in 2019. In the series, the team has also been able to score a number of race and class victories to date. In 2013, Jörg Viebahn became champion in the Am classification with a PROsport car, while Peter Terting and Viebahn won the Pro-Am classification in 2016. In addition, the team classification went to Wiesemscheid in 2016.

Hugo Sasse and Mike David Ortmann will share a car. The duo will compete together in the Silver Cup. After three victories in the 2021 ADAC GT4 Germany, the duo also wants to fight for the title in the GT4 European Series. “We are keeping the package from 2021. Mike and I fit very well together, the Aston Martin Vantage GT4 is one of the strong cars in the field and with PROsport Racing we have a very experienced team behind us. I’m looking forward to it,” says Sasse. His partner agrees: “We have a really good package with the team. It worked almost perfectly last year and we want to pick up where we left off and clearly compete for the championship.”

The second PROsport Racing Aston Martin will compete in the Pro-Am Cup. Long-time PROsport Racing driver Rodrigue Gillion from Belgium will take the wheel of the GT4 Vantage. His mentor, compatriot and PROsport Racing regular Nico Verdonck will share the car with him. Gillion has been schooled by Verdonck in recent years and has been successful in endurance racing, but now he is venturing into a sprint series for the first time. “Our goal in the 2022 GT4 European Series season is for Rodrigue Gillion to get used to the highest form of GT4 sprint racing,” Verdonck said. “This is completely new territory for him, as he has only competed in endurance races to date.”

Team boss Chris Esser is optimistic about the GT4 European Series season: “We are well positioned with Hugo and Mike in the Silver Cup, but I am also very optimistic about Rodrigue and Nico in the Pro-Am class.
I am very excited and curious to see how Rodrigue will perform in this challenging series. Nico has now trained his “student driver” over years from a gentleman driver to a real racer. For Rodrigue, this is the first season in a sprint competition after several successful endurance years.”

The season opener in the GT4 European Series will take place April 1-3 at the traditional Italian circuit at Imola. This will be followed by further race weekends at Le Castellet, Misano, Spa-Francorchamps and the German round at the Hockenheimring. The season finale will be held in Barcelona from September 30 to October 2.
